If you are a beginner, Welcome to surfing! I started surfing in 1998 when I was 12 years old, and haven't stopped until now. If you are just starting, here is my homework help for you. Couple of short surfing "to-do" list:

1. You should understand that surfing is a water sport. It can only be practiced by persons who are swimmers. BIG waves are serious matters. So, my first tip on how to surf is to be at home in the ocean. You should study to swim in a rip current in overhead waves.

2. Learning from the expert would be the best way to start it. Hire a professional instructor. It can be a friend or a family member who is surfing for years or literally a professional. You have to learn surf etiquette. The basics are how to paddle, how to take off on a wave, and how to ride a wave. With this, someone will look after you on your first surfing experience

3. Beginners should start first on renting boards and wetsuits. So that If you get discouraged and quickly quit surfing, you haven't wasted amount of money on surfing gear.
